COMPASS Treatment / Technique publication

Find a vein specialist doctor

In a collaborative research VRF has established the sustained efficacy of ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy in the management of varicose veins. This technique published in a leading vascular journal , (COMPASS technique , foam sclerotherapy ) seems to have a distinct advantage over previously recommended stripping surgery. The failure of stripping surgery in the management of varicose veins is obvious, for it is impossible to methodologically “ strip out ” hundreds of diseased networks of veins , distinctly from the normal veins.

“Comprehensive Objective Mapping under the COMPASS technique” is a detailed analysis with the use of color ultrasound imaging,  of the deep and superficial venous system, with attention to trace the origin of reflux (  the origin of varicose veins )  , blood flow patterns, vein diameters, orientation, shape  distinct from the normal veins with their primary and secondary tributaries, as well as the competent and incompetent perforators (  perforator veins are normal  circuits between the deep and superficial venous system and require high degree of skill to identify defects in them,  for recommending any therapeutic intervention . The key success of COMPASS protocol has been in managing these critical veins, which are a major cause of failure in varicose vein surgery, previously).
